Climate change and Sowa Rigpa Medicine

We recognize the importance of traditional medicine in promoting health and well-being, and we are committed to supporting the preservation and promotion of traditional healing practices. We have created an information card that includes a colored illustration of plants that are utilized as medicines in High Himalayan traditional medicine, including Sowa Rigpa medicine. It aims to raise awareness of, and aid in the preservation of, our medicinal plant resources among the younger generation.
We joined hands with organizations from India and Bhutan and are currently developing a project focused on Sowa Rigpa medicine, a traditional healing system that has been practiced for centuries in the Himalayan region. Our project aims to address the challenges faced by Sowa Rigpa medicine as a result of climate change, which has had a significant impact on the plants used in traditional medicine. We believe that by establishing systems of climate resilience and promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange among stakeholders, we can help to secure the survival of this invaluable traditional knowledge.
The proposed event will bring together policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and communities to share knowledge, best practices, and experiences related to Sowa Rigpa medicine and climate resilience. Through this event, we hope to achieve the following objectives:
1 - Deepen comprehension of the significance of creating resilience systems and the effects of climate change on plants utilized in Sowa Rigpa medicine.
2 - Create proposals for policies and practices to solve the problems that Sowa Rigpa medicine is experiencing as a result of climate change and to secure the survival of this priceless traditional knowledge.
3 - Enhance cooperation and information exchange among key players, such as policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and communities.
4 - Enhance stakeholders' ability to put practices and policies into place that address the difficulties Sowa Rigpa medicine faces in the light of climate change.
We believe that this project has the potential to make a significant impact on the preservation and promotion of traditional healing practices, as well as on the broader goals of sustainable development and climate resilience. We are excited to work with our partners and stakeholders to make this project a success.
