Tea and Spices

There are several plant resources that could benefit human health and wellbeing. Many of these plants are known to and have been consumed by indigenous populations in Nepal, however, nowadays not utilize. We are creating a niche market with the help of the local community for such underutilized plants that can be used as tea and spices. Curry leaf, for instance, which was once a crucial component of Nepalese cuisine, specially in lowland areas, is no longer used frequently. We are creating a market value chain for it while determining its potential international markets.

Climate change and Sowa Rigpa Medicine

Climate change is having a significant impact on traditional healing practices, including Sowa Rigpa medicine. This traditional healing system relies on a diverse range of plants and herbs, many of which are threatened by changing weather patterns, extreme weather events, and other impacts of climate change. This can lead to shortages of important medicinal plants, making it more difficult for traditional healers to provide effective treatments to their patients. In some cases, traditional healers may need to rely on alternative or substitute plants, which may not be as effective or may have different properties than the original plant. Addressing the challenges posed by climate change is essential for the preservation and promotion of traditional healing practices, including Sowa Rigpa medicine. By working to establish systems of climate resilience and promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange among stakeholders, we can help to ensure that traditional healing practices continue to thrive in the face of changing environmental conditions.

Natural Fiber Value-chain

Natural fibers have been used for thousands of years to make clothing, textiles, and other products. These fibers are grown and harvested from plants and animals and have been a critical source of income for small-scale farmers and rural communities worldwide. N.Gene is currently developing a value-chain of one of natural fiber. The natural fiber value-chain refers to the various stages involved in the production, processing, and distribution of natural fibers.
